Edinburgh, the City of AI: A six-decade legacy propels the Scottish capital to the world's top

Edinburgh's tradition of excellence in artificial intelligence is flourishing, placing the city at the top of the SAS AI Cities Index 2023, a well-deserved victory resulting from six decades of research and innovation. This historic foundation dates back to 1965, when scientist Donald Michie, a disciple of Alan Turing, established the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh.
